Players, Squad, Rankings & History
The Argentina World Cup squad 1982 represented the country in the FIFA World Cup held in Spain. Argentina entered the tournament as the defending champion after winning the 1978 World Cup.
This tournament also marked the first World Cup appearance of Diego Maradona, who was only 21 years old at the time.
Argentina had a difficult tournament in Spain. The team advanced from the first group stage but struggled in the second group stage against strong teams like Brazil and Italy.
Italy eventually won the tournament, while Argentina was eliminated before reaching the knockout stages.
Although Argentina did not repeat its success from 1978, the 1982 World Cup was important because it introduced Diego Maradona to the global stage.
Four years later, Maradona would lead Argentina to World Cup glory in 1986.
